Root zone & crop biology

BIOMICROBES develops different microbial formulations for use in and around the root zone. BM02, BM08 and ROOT-N contain different microbial compositions and each has its own role within the portfolio.

Microbiology at work

Why microbiology around the root?

The root zone is a biologically active environment. Microorganisms perform different functions there, supporting processes around nutrients, roots and microbial activity, and with them the vitality and resilience of the crop. These functions partly overlap and complement each other: microorganisms do not work in isolation. That is why microbial composition matters, not just the presence of one bacterium.

The root zone portfolio

Different microbial compositions, one root zone

BM02, BM08 and ROOT-N together form the core portfolio for applications in soil and substrate. The products contain different microbial compositions and each fulfils its own role within the portfolio.

One root-zone portfolio, different microbial compositions

A sound microbial strategy does not necessarily consist of one micro-organism or one formulation. These products should therefore not simply be presented as alternatives to one another.

Practical questions

Questions about our root-zone products

How BIOMICROBES 02, BIOMICROBES 08 and ROOT-N differ from one another.

What is the difference between BIOMICROBES 02, BIOMICROBES 08 and ROOT-N?

The three products each have their own microbial composition and role, with partly overlapping functions. BIOMICROBES 02 contains Pseudomonas fluorescens and supports rhizosphere activity and nutrient availability. BIOMICROBES 08 combines eight bacterial species and supports root growth, nutrient uptake and the biology around the root. ROOT-N contains Azotobacter vinelandii and supports the natural nitrogen cycle and root development. Overlap in function does not make them interchangeable: BIOMICROBES 02 is targeted, BIOMICROBES 08 multi-species and ROOT-N adds a specific function. All three are developed for soil and substrate.

Which root zone product suits my crop?

In soil or substrate, BIOMICROBES 02, BIOMICROBES 08 and ROOT-N each play their own role. Depending on the functions you want to support, a targeted or a multi-species formulation fits, or several side by side. If the roots grow in a nutrient solution, HYDROPONICS is the right solution. Our team is happy to discuss which microbial approach suits your crop. Contact us.

Why do different BIOMICROBES products sometimes have overlapping benefits?

Because different microorganisms can partly contribute to the same biological processes, such as nutrient availability or rhizosphere activity. Overlap does not mean that products are equivalent or interchangeable. The organisms, their other properties and the composition of the formulation differ, and so does their role in the root zone.

Can microorganisms support nutrient uptake?

Yes. Microorganisms can help make nutrients more available and contribute to an active, well-functioning root zone, which supports efficient uptake. Uptake itself still depends on nutrition, pH, EC, irrigation, oxygen and root condition, among other factors.
